Biden appoints Indian American to key post

San Francisco, November 16 (Language): The White House said that US President Joe Biden has appointed Indian American Shakuntala L Bhaya to an important role.

Bhaya was appointed as a member of the Council of the Administrative Conference of the United States of America. The White House said it was one of several new appointments announced by Biden on Wednesday.

Bhaya is co-owner of the Law Offices of Doroshow, Pasquale, Kravitz & Bhaya, a statewide Delaware law firm. The White House said his practice focuses on representing individuals who have been seriously injured as a result of businesses and people making unsafe decisions.

Bhaya has been a member of Governor Carney’s Judicial Nominating Commission for the past seven years. In addition to practicing law, Bhaya is also involved in Delaware politics.

She is currently a member of the State Executive Committee of the Delaware Democratic Party. Bhaya, former president of the Delaware Trial Lawyers Association, continues to defend consumers’ 7th Amendment right to a jury trial and access to the courts.

Bhaya is also a member of the American Association for Justice and the American Civil Liberties Union and is actively involved in helping pro-choice democratic women get elected to office.

She was actively involved in fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community and helping its members adopt children, get legal redress when faced with workplace discrimination, and allowing people to marry. Bhaya is the first South Asian Indian to be admitted to the Delaware Bar Association.

Bhaya continues to work towards diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession and politics. Bhaya is a graduate of Northeastern University School of Law. PTI LKJ RHL
