Amit Shah’s mega rally in Kolkata

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address a massive rally at Kolkata’s Esplanade on Wednesday as the city gears up for the event. In the lead up to the mega rally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized small processions in different parts of the city on Tuesday, PTI reported. Prominent party figures, including BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar and senior leader Rahul Sinha, led processions in south Kolkata, while opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari led similar programs in Birbhum’s Rampurhat.

Majumdar stressed that Shah’s proposed rally would serve to reflect public discontent against increasing corruption by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders and ministers since 2011.

Majumdar said, “The people of Bengal have suffered enough from TMC’s misgovernance and corruption. Amit Shah’s rally will resonate with the collective voice of those who want change and good governance.”

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing for the mega rally, which is expected to garner substantial public attention and political significance in the state.

Karnataka High Court to hear Shivakumar’s appeal against approval of CBI probe

The Karnataka High Court is set to hear the final arguments on Wednesday on Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s appeal against the clearance given to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by the previous BJP government. The sanction enables the CBI to prosecute Shivakumar in the disproportionate assets case.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the CBI, and senior lawyer Uday Holla, representing Shivakumar, are expected to present their arguments before Chief Justice Prasanna B Varale and Justice Krishna S Dixit. The appeal revolves around the consent given by the state cabinet to withdraw permission for the CBI investigation against Shivakumar.

Uday Holla said, “We are confident that the court will uphold the principles of justice. The appeal against the CBI investigation is based on legal merits.”

In an intervention application, BJP leader Basanagouda Patil Yatnal filed a petition regarding the state cabinet’s decision to withdraw consent for the CBI probe against Shivakumar, who is also the state unit president of the Congress.
