Hindu Americans take out car rally in Houston ahead of consecration of Ram temple in Ayodhya

Houston, Jan 9 (PTI) Members of the Hindu American community took out a massive car rally across Houston on Sunday in view of Ram’s consecration ceremony, stopping at 11 temples along the way and singing bhajans and chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Temple in Ayodhya later this month.

Temple officials received a formal invitation from the Vishva Hindu Parishad of America (VHPA) to attend the consecration ceremony to be held in Ayodhya on January 22.

Carrying saffron banners bearing images of the Ram temple, the Indian flag and the American flag, more than 500 enthusiastic riders took part in the rally in a 3-mile long queue of 216 cars accompanied by eight policemen on bikes.

The rally was flagged off from the Shri Meenakshi Temple by Houston philanthropist Jugal Malani and concluded at the Shri Sharad Amba Temple in Richmond in the afternoon.

Crossing Houston’s busy roadways, the procession led by a truck covered 100 miles in six hours, stopping at eleven temples.

About 2,000 devotees, including both young and old, and some with tears in their eyes, welcomed the procession with hymns at the temples.

The chants of “Jai Shri Ram” and the sound of conch shells ensured complete sensory overload for everyone present in the temples. And yet the vastness of Sri Rama’s influence and the unwavering devotion of his followers were undeniable. But the best part was experiencing this perspective with fellow Ram ‘bhakts’,” said Kusum Vyas, founder of Living Planet Foundation.

The rally, the first of its kind, was organized by Houston volunteers Achalesh Amar, Umang Mehta and Arun Mundra.

“The devotion and love shown towards the car rally participants by over 2,500 devotees who gathered at various temples was overwhelming. Lord Shri Ram definitely lives in the hearts of Houstonians,” said Amar, who is also a member of VHPA.

“We are blessed to live in these times and celebrate the return of Shri Ram to Ayodhya,” Mehta said. He said, “The atmosphere was so filled with devotion and love that it felt as if Shri Ram himself had come to Houston.”

Mundra said, “We presented a beautifully crafted invitation basket to the welcoming temple officials, which included a formal invitation from the VHPA, sacred rice from Ayodhya, ‘Ram Parivar’, ‘Gangajal’, Sundar Kand (of the Ramayana). and some sweets.” Said.

“It was handed over to each temple requesting them to participate in the Pran Pratishtha Mahotsav of the grand Shri Ram Lalla temple,” Mundra said. PTI SK Sky Sky Sky
