Holi date 2024: Holi has special significance in Hindu religion. This festival is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Phalgun month. The day before Holi is known as Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi. On this day, Holika is worshiped after sunset and a bonfire is lit to symbolize the victory of good over evil. The next day, people play Holi with colored powder and water. In the year 2024, the festival of Holi will be celebrated on Monday, March 25.

The festival of Holi is celebrated in different ways in different regions of India. In the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh, the fifth day of Holi, known as Rang Panchami, is celebrated with even more enthusiasm than the main Holi. Holi is celebrated with grand festivities in the Braj region and Lathmar Holi of Barsana is especially famous. Holi celebration lasts for 15 days in Mathura and Vrindavan. In Maharashtra, dry colors are used to play Holi on Rang Panchami.

Mythological stories related to Holi:

Many mythological stories related to Holi are described in the Puranas. Holika Dahan is celebrated to symbolize the victory of good over evil. According to a legend, Prahlad, the son of the demon king Hiranyakashipu, was a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu, which displeased his father. Hiranyakashipu sought help from his sister Holika, who had the boon that fire could not harm her. Holika entered the fire with Prahlad in her lap with the intention of killing him. However, due to Prahlad’s devotion, Holika was burnt to ashes while Prahlad remained safe. Holi is also celebrated to commemorate the divine love of Radha and Krishna.
