Israeli air strikes in Gaza kill dozens, many trapped under debris: Palestinian media

Dozens of Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza on Saturday, according to Palestinian media, news agency Reuters reported, as the US urged Israel to reduce its military campaign and focus on Hamas officials. did. At least 14 people were killed in attacks on two residences on Old Gaza Street in Jabaliya, while another attack in Jabaliya killed several people, according to the official WAFA news agency. According to the Palestinian Agency, a large number of residents are trapped under the debris.

The Israeli military claimed that its planes attacked a structure in Jabaliya following the attack on its soldiers, and found several Hamas members on the roof. It was unclear whether this structure was one of those damaged by WAFA.

According to the military, Israeli troops killed militants hiding in two schools in Gaza City, raided residences filled with weapons in Khan Yunis, and discovered Hamas underground infrastructure.

The reports could not be independently verified by Reuters.

The US has warned that Israel is at risk of losing international support due to “indiscriminate” airstrikes killing Palestinian civilians, amid a heavy ground war in the tight Gaza Strip and relief agencies warning of a humanitarian disaster.

President Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, who visited Israel on Thursday and Friday, sent a message to Israel to scale back broader military operations and move toward more precisely targeted operations against Hamas leaders, according to US officials.

During Sullivan’s visit, Israeli officials officially stated that fighting would continue until the goal of destroying Hamas was achieved, which could take several months.

Washington indicated on Friday that the US and Israel disagree over how quickly to end the conflict, with Sullivan saying the deadline was the subject of “intense discussion” between the allies.

On October 7, Hamas militants launched a surprise cross-border attack on Israel, killing 1,200 and taking 240 captive. According to Gaza health officials, about 19,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli response, while thousands more are feared trapped under the debris.
